Fabian Maier · TACTIC Asia Europe Consulting

Connecting European and Chinese companies —
from first contact to signed contract.

Communication with Chinese partners, trade shows, seminars. Six years with a Chinese automation group: first analysing the European market, then running international marketing at its German subsidiary and coordinating procurement. When the group acquired a Polish company, I aligned and translated the contracts with the law firm, the M&A adviser, the sellers and the Chinese legal department.

Why work with me

What you get

One person for both sides

German, English and Chinese from the same person. Not an interpreter who doesn't know the subject, and not a consultant who doesn't speak the language.

Fixed scope, fixed fee

Before we start, you have it in writing: what is included, what is explicitly excluded, what it costs and by when. No open-ended day rates.

The same person start to finish

No handover between proposal, delivery and follow-up. Nothing you explain once has to be explained again to someone new.

Procurement and negotiation, not just language

I have qualified suppliers, drafted contracts and negotiated prices — as purchase manager in industrial automation.

Both sides from the inside

From 2018 to 2024 working for a Chinese automation group, from 2020 on the payroll of its German subsidiary. I know both sides as an employee, not as an observer.

Tools I built myself

Built for stand design and company research in my own projects. Results reach you in a few hours rather than weeks.

Services

What I take on

Communication

The Chinese side of your communication

You have business in China and nobody in-house who knows the language and the customs. I take that part on.

  • Correspondence and phone calls with the Chinese side, in Chinese or English
  • Regular participation in business trips to China: I interpret, and I pick up what the Chinese side says among themselves
  • The coordination that follows, in both directions

Available on an ongoing basis rather than per project.

Trade shows

Running your show as a project

The stand is the visible part. The rest is deadlines, orders and coordination — work nobody internally is ever given the time for, and which cannot wait. I have delivered five shows, on 70 to 140 m² in Germany and the United States.

  • Working through the exhibitor manual, tracking deadlines, ordering the services you actually need
  • Selecting and managing the stand builder — I don't build, so I can compare their quotes impartially
  • Schedule built backwards from build-up day, logistics and temporary import, build-up and dismantling supervised in person
  • On request, on the stand: approaching and qualifying Chinese visitors, and preparing the conversations worth having
  • Wrap-up: contacts, costs, and what to do differently next time

Training

A working day with your team

No tea ceremonies, no business card etiquette. A day spent on the cases currently open in your projects, and on how to move them forward. What I pass on I learned inside a Chinese group, as the only German there who spoke Chinese.

  • How decisions actually get made inside Chinese organisations — and who you need in the room
  • How to tell whether a commitment will hold, and how to get one that does
  • How to hand over specifications and deadlines so they are read as binding rather than aspirational
  • What typically still moves after signature — and how to plan for it
  • Your live cases, worked through in the session

Most enquiries are combinations — a trade show where two suppliers need checking at the same time; a supplier visit that turns into a conversation about an equity stake. Describe the case, not the category.

Partnership

IAIT — Institute for Automation and Industrial Technology

For investment and market-entry projects I work with IAIT in Langenhagen, Germany, and a partner consultancy in China. IAIT supports acquisitions, equity investments and company formations between China and Europe, and runs the Hannover Business Hub, which provides office space for Chinese companies setting up here.

Decisions like these are rarely made at a desk: before anyone invests, the decision-makers usually travel to the target company or the intended site themselves. I organise and accompany those visits. The structuring and the access to investors come from IAIT and our Chinese partner firm.

Working on something that involves China?

One short conversation is usually enough to tell whether I'm the right person for it, and roughly what a project like yours involves.

How it starts

Working together, step by step

Intro call

About thirty minutes, no obligation. You describe the project, I give you my read on effort and feasibility.

Proposal with a fixed scope

What I will do, what is explicitly not included, what it costs and by when. No open-ended day rates.

Delivery

You get progress updates on a set rhythm and a written record at the end. Everything that matters is written down, so it still holds up when I'm not in the room.

How I work

Tools I built myself

Both came out of my own project work, and both are still in use there.

StandFlow: 3D stand configuration and the quote generated from it
Trade shows

StandFlow

Editable 3D stand concepts in minutes rather than days, with the quote generated from the same configuration. Not an AI image — a configuration you can keep working on. Built for the early stage, when a client needs something to react to before designers get involved.

Target search

TACTIC SME Radar

Finds German mid-sized targets that never appear in the usual databases and turns them into a report you can actually read. Every claim carries a footnote; every source is listed with the date it was retrieved. The report closes with a judgement on where to start, not a data sheet.
